Japanese Ambassador to India ONO Keiichi, recently shared a video on his X handle, offering a glimpse into his experience of enjoying biryani the Indian way—by eating with his hands—and praising the cultural practice.

In his post, the envoy drew an interesting comparison between Indian biryani and Japanese sushi, writing: “Tried eating biryani by hand — following my Indian friends. Like sushi, it tastes even better when eaten by hand.”

Expressing how the experience helped him connect more deeply with Indian culture, ONO added, “I feel I’ve come a little closer to my friends!”

The ambassador later shared another post from his visit to Telangana, where he relished authentic Hyderabadi biryani, known for its rich spices and bold flavours.

“Enjoyed authentic Hyderabadi biryani during visit to Telangana! Amazed by its rich spices and bold flavours — truly addictive!” he wrote.

Netizens responded warmly to the posts, appreciating the envoy’s openness and cultural curiosity. One user, Himanshu Jain, commented, “It’s not the gesture of eating by hand, but your warmth and openness that truly bring people closer.”

Another user, Sandhya, wrote, “Dear Sir, eating with hands is the best way to savour food—its texture, temperature, and flavours—activating all the senses. It keeps the mind and body in sync. I love Japan and admire how you have preserved your ancient culture.”

The posts sparked widespread appreciation online, with many users praising the ambassador’s efforts to embrace Indian traditions and cuisine.
