Kashmir: Students appear for annual board examinations

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IBNS): Amid tight security, thousands of students appeared for the annual board examinations across Kashmir on Monday despite the protest and strike from July 9.

Kashmir valley witnessed massive protest for last two months to postpone the annual examination in wake of killings and protests since the death of Hizb Leader Burhan Wani.

In order to conduct the examinations smoothly, except staff and police personnel everyone was barred to enter into the examination centres.

480 centers had been set up for about 48,000 candidates for class 12 examination across Kashmir division, said BOSE official.

He added that tight security arrangements were in place for the smooth conduct of the examinations.

The official further said that over 94 percent students of class 12th appeared in their examinations.

According to official figures, 30213 students appeared out of a total 31964 in Kashmir.

South Kashmir’s Anantnag (Islamabad) district witnessed highest participation of students where 96 percent students appeared in exams followed by 95 percent in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

Meanwhile, police official in Srinagar told IBNS barring few stray incidents of stone-pelting these examinations were conducted smoothly and peacefully. More than 98 per cent students participated in these examinations.

According to the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE), almost 95% students appeared in the examination today.

They said out of 31964 students enrolled for appearing in the said examination 30213 students appeared in today’s paper.

Section 144, which bars assembly of more than four persons has been in place at and around all centres. Special police squads monitor the situation thought the day.
