Mumbai/IBNS: Popular actress Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell in connection with the 2023 illegal streaming of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on a betting app, media reports said.

Tamannaah has been summoned for allegedly promoting viewing of IPL matches on Fairplay, a subsidiary application of the Mahadev online gaming app.

She has been asked to appear before the cyber cell next year as a witness.

Actor Sanjay Dutt too was summoned earlier by the cyber cell in connection with the case but he couldn't appear.

Dutt has sought a date and time to get his statement recorded.

Viacom, which has the intellectual property rights to stream IPL matches, had complained that the illegal streaming of the matches on the app had caused them loss amounting to Rs. 100 crore.

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the police following the complaint.

Apart from Tamannaah and Dutt, actress Jacqueline Fernandez, singer Badshah were also summoned.
