Ahead of Madhya Pradesh floor test, CM Kamal Nath resigns

Bhopal/IBNS: Ahead of the floor test which was directed by the Supreme Court, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath resigned on Friday ending a political crisis in the state.

Nath said, "While the BJP got 15 years, I have got merely 15 months. I have changed the state in these months."

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to topple the government, the Chief Minister said, "Right from day one, the BJP tried to destabilise the government. The BJP did conspiracy against my government."

The Congress government in the state fell into crisis after 22 rebel MLAs had submitted their resignations to Governor Lalji Tandon.

Tandon has reportedly accepted the resignations of the rebel Congress MLAs turning the Nath government into minority.

All the MLAs are the loyalists of BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia who resigned as the Congress member earlier this month.

Not going to the floor test unlike BJP's BS Yediyurappa or Janata Dal Secular's HD Kumaraswamy. Nath held a press conference and said addressing his workers, "I have worked with values. I will continue to do so. BJP thinks it will be successful by this conspiracy but it will never happen."

"After today, there will be a tomorrow and a day after. I will wait for the day after," the outgoing Chief Minister said.

In the present scenario where the strength of the house got reduced to 206, the majority is 104.

As the Congress and its allies have got reduced to just 99, the BJP, which has 106 MLAs, is set to return to government 15 months after suffering a defeat in the assembly elections in Dec 2018.

With the BJP returning to power, it is most likely three-term Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan will once again assume the topmost post.

The rift in Madhya Pradesh Congress started first with its then senior leader Scindia speaking against his own government.

In a recent incident, Scindia, a former MP from Guna, had threatened to protest against the Nath government over the demands of the protesting guest teachers.
