AIADMK snaps ties with BJP-led NDA over latter's party boss remarks in Tamil Nadu

Chennai/UNI/IBNS: Amid growing friction and fissures in the alliance, the main Opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu on Monday snapped its ties with the BJP and walked out of the BJP-led NDA alliance.

An unanimous resolution was adopted at an emergency meeting of the senior party functionaries, headquarters secretaries, MPs and MLAs, chaired by AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Edappadi K.Palaniswami.

At a meeting in Delhi on Saturday amid efforts to save the alliance AIADMK demanded that BJP state chief K Annamalai should either be replaced or apologise for remarks on the late former Chief Minister CN Annadurai, media reports said.

Annadurai was the mentor of AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran.

The break-up was announced by AIADMK Deputy General Secretary KP Munusamy.

The AIADMK-BJP alliance was on the verge of collapse last week after its leader D Jayakumar told reporters "we will decide on the alliance before the election".

"Annamalai is unfit to be BJP's state president. He speaks ill of late leaders only to project himself," he said, quoted NDTV.
