Allahabad HC nixes plea seeking stay on Bhumipujan in Ayodhya on Aug 5

Prayagraj/UNI: The Allahabad High Court on Friday rejected a petition against the proposed holding of Bhumipujan for the Ram Temple at Ayodhya on August 5 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh refused to entertain the petition filed by one Saket Gokhale, a social activists in Mumbai.


The court maintained that the entire petition for writ is based on assumptions and there is no foundation for apprehending violation of the prescribed protocol at present.

"We expect the organisers and the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure all the protocol applicable for social and physical distancing. In view of whatever stated above we do not find any reason to interfere in the matter the writ petition is dismissed," the bench of CJ said.

The petition has been filed before the court, for an appropriate writ order or direction to restrain the respondents from the Bhumi Pujan laying down foundation stone of Ram Mandir Ayodhya.

As per the petitioner, the respondents have invited about 300 people at a single place on August 5, 2020 and that may cause violation of the protocol prescribed by the government of India and government of Uttar Pradesh for propose of, maintaining social and physical distancing to combat pandemic of Covid-19.
