Assam Rifles personnel recover foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 6.05 lakh in Mizoram's Champhai

Guwahati: Troops of Assam Rifles recovered a huge quantity of foreign origin cigarettes worth more than Rs 6 lakh in Mizoram's Champhai district along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The PRO of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) said that, Serchip Battalion of Headquarter of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 4.66 lakh pieces of foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 6,05,800 from Ruantlang area in Champhai district.

On specific input, the operation was carried out by the teams of 8 Assam Rifles, 2 Assam Rifles and 10 Assam Rifles.

Later, the seized foreign origin cigarettes were handed over to Custom Department,  Champhai for further legal proceedings.               

Ongoing smuggling of foreign origin cigarette is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the Indo-Myanmar Border.
