Assault on me and Rahul Gandhi: Congress chief Kharge's charge over parliament chaos

New Delhi/IBNS: Countering the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s charge, Congress' Rajya Sabha floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge said he along with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi were assaulted in parliament over the chaos centred on the controversial remark by union home minister Amit Shah on Father of the Constitution, BR Ambedkar.

The Opposition ramped up its protest on Thursday in parliament premises with even lawmakers climbing 'Makar Dwar' in a bizarre scene of political slugfest.

As per BJP's claims, two BJP MPs- Mukesh Rajput and Pratap Sarangi- were injured after they were allegedly pushed by Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli.

Rajpur and Sarangi were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

In a counter-charge, Kharge wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla claiming he and Rahul Gandhi were assaulted.

Kharge posted on X, "My letter to the Hon’ble @loksabhaspeaker urging to order an inquiry into the incident which is an assault not just on me personally, but also on the Leader of the Opposition."

Rahul claimed his entry into parliament was blocked by a few ruling party members leading to chaos.

He said, "I was trying to enter the Parliament. But BJP MPs were trying to stop me, pushing me and threatening me. This is Parliament and it is our right to go inside."
