Bansuri Swaraj, Sushma Swaraj's daughter, to make poll debut in 2024 Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi: Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of former external affairs minister and BJP leader late Sushma Swaraj, is all set to enter the political arena with the upcoming elections, representing the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.

Soon after BJP announced the first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Bansuri Swaraj said in a press conference she would strive to live up to her mother’s legacy.

Bansuri Swaraj has fifteen years of experience in the legal profession.

Her academic credentials include an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Warwick and a law degree from BPP Law School in London.

She is a Barrister at Law and has been called to the bar from the Hon'ble Inn of Inner Temple, London.

She completed her Masters of Studies from St. Catherine's College at the University of Oxford.

Bansuri Swaraj has also served as co-convenor of the BJP Delhi's legal cell, appointed just last year.

Swaraj made political headlines last year when she attacked Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Admi Party (AAP) over National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023. She dubbed AAP as a "jhagdalu (quarrelsome) and nikammi (useless)" party, accusing them of poor governance and under performance since 2015.

The BJP has unveiled a list of 195 candidates ahead of the official announcement of poll dates.

The list announced key figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, running for his third term from Varanasi, and Home Minister Amit Shah, contesting again from Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
