Bengal bypolls: BJP fields Agnimitra Paul against turncoat Shatrughan Sinha from Asansol LS seat

Kolkata/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday named Agnimitra Paul as the party's candidate for the by-poll to the Asansol Lok Sabha seat.

Meanwhile, Keya Ghosh will be the BJP candidate for the Assembly by-election from Ballygunge.

Agnimitra Paul is currently serving as an MLA from Asansol South and heads the West Bengal unit of BJP Mahila Morcha.

It will be an interesting contest this time as the Trinamool Congress on Sunday announced the names of ex-BJP leaders Shatrughan Sinha and Babul Supriyo as candidates for bypolls to Asansol Lok Sabha seat and Ballygunge assembly seat respectively.

The bypolls to Asansol parliamentary constituency were necessitated after former BJP leader Babul Supriyo vacated the seat as he quit the saffron party and joined Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress in September last year.

The Election Commission of India had announced the schedule of bypolls to one parliamentary constituency in West Bengal and four assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.

The bypolls will be held on April 12 for the Asansol Lok Sabha seat and Ballygunge assembly seat in West Bengal.

The three other assembly constituencies which will go to bypolls on the same date are Khairagarh in Chhattisgarh, Bochahan in Bihar, and Kolhapur North in Maharashtra.

Beby Kumari and SN Kadam will be BJP candidates from Bihar and Maharashtra Assembly by-polls respectively, the party announced.
