CAA accepted by most countries as India's internal matter: MEA
New Delhi/UNI: The government on Thursday asserted that most countries globally have accepted that the contentious new Citizenship law is strictly an 'internal' matter of India.
"If you have noticed the reactions we have received from across the world, I mean barring a few countries, we feel that most countries have accepted that this (CAA) is internal matter of India," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters here.
"......That is reflected in their reactions," he said at the weekly media briefing answering questions.
To a question on the stalled Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, which was supposed to have been hosted at Guwahati in Assam but was deferred, the MEA spokesman said both sides are on talks with each other on the matter.
"...We do hope very soon we will come to finalisation of the (new) dates," he said adding the Summit between two Prime Ministers is an annual mechanism and all matters will be discussed.
Answering questions, Kumar said India had adopted 'two-pronged' approach on the CAA and tried to reach out to the countries across globe.
"We did reach out to countries across....and we did write to missions and told them to share our perspective on CAA and NRC," he said adding similar outreach efforts were made in Delhi as well when envoys of different countries posted in Delhi were also explained about India's position on the CAA and NRC.
