Kolkata/UNI: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday gave green light to Ganga Sagar Mela at Sagar island where several thousand pilgrims would take a holy dip tomorrow, on the day of Makarsankranti.

A division bench, headed by Chief Justice T B Radhakrishan, issued the ruling after being satisfied with arrangements made by the state government in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The chief secretary and the health secretary submitted affidavits affirming the measures for Ganga Sagar Mela to combat coronavirus.

The state government for the first time made provision for the pilgrims to watch the mela live on the internet.

Pilgrims can also book an online pilgrimage comprising Ganga Jal in a container, prasad, holy tika for e-snan (e-holy dip).
