Cash pile recovery: Justice Yashwant Varma's cases dropped from Delhi High Court's Monday hearings

New Delhi/IBNS: Justice Yashwant Varma's scheduled cases were dropped from the list of Monday hearings of the Delhi High Court in view of the corruption charges against him after a pile of unaccounted cash was allegedly recovered from the judge's residence, media reports said.

The Delhi High Court registrar released a circular that indicates Justice Varma scheduled cases were removed from Monday hearings.

This comes after Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna appointed a three-member panel comprising two High Court Chief Justices and one High Court judge to probe into the allegations.

What happened at Justice Varma's house?

A fire at Justice Varma's residential bungalow led to the recovery of a huge pile of unaccounted cash, prompting the Supreme Court collegium to transfer from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad HC.

Justice Varma was out of town when a fire broke out at his residence last week. Justice Varma's family members had called the fire brigade.

But when the firefighters doused the fire, a huge pile of cash was discovered inside a room.

Police were called by the firefighters.

The accidental discovery, which left the judiciary red-faced, led Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna to call an immediate collegium meeting.
