Beijing/New Delhi/Islamabad/IBNS: China on Friday asked neighboring nations India and Pakistan to maintain restraint and avoid actions that might escalate tension.

The Chinese government voiced its concern over the exchange of fire along the Line of Control by the armed forces of Pakistan and India.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said during a media briefing: "We note relevant reports and are concerned about the current situation."

"As a neighbor of both India and Pakistan, China calls on them to exercise restraint, avoid actions that might escalate tensions, peacefully resolve disputes through dialogue and jointly uphold regional peace and stability," he said.

The spokesperson's attention was drawn to the acccusation made by the Inter-Services Public Relations that Pakistan armed forces, responding to India's violation of ceasefire agreement along the LoC in the last 36 hours, damaged an Indian post in Haji Pir sector, killing three Indian soldiers. Two Pakistani soldiers were also killed, reported UNI news agency.

The Indian army had said Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement and opened fire in Baramulla, killing one Indian soldier and a civilian.
