Rajasthan: Congress leader calls Madhuri Dixit 'second grade' actress, stirs fresh controversy

Jaipur: Days after a Congress leader faced backlash over remarks about Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, another party member has sparked controversy with comments on actress Madhuri Dixit, media reports said.

Tika Ram Jully, Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, criticised the state government for allocating over ₹100 crore for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards held in Jaipur on March 8 and 9, Moneycontrol reported.

Taking a swipe at the event's guest list, Jully claimed it lacked major Bollywood stars.

Responding to a BJP legislator's mention of Madhuri Dixit's attendance, Jully reportedly dismissed her as a "Grade II actress."

He further remarked, “Only Shah Rukh Khan was among the first-grade actors,” referencing the IIFA 2025 lineup.

The controversy follows a recent uproar over Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed’s remarks on Rohit Sharma. In a post on X, she called him "overweight" and "the most unimpressive captain India has ever had."

The Congress party distanced itself from her comments and directed her to delete the post.
