Court hands out 3 years Rigorous Imprisonment and Rs 25,000 fine for attempting to rape

The  judge ordered that the  imposed  fine money would be  deposited in the account of the  victim and if the  accused  failed to pay the  fine  money, he would be  further imprisoned  for  eight months.

According to the  prosecution  one Kalandi Behera, of Jadupurgada  had attempted to rape a final year Shastri Student of  a local Sanskrit college under Marshaghai police station on October 15,2017 noon  near Jadupurgada on Paradip-Daitary Expressway.

The 19 year old victim girl was returning from her house, after completing  the Puja vacation  on October 15 when  accused Kalandi Behera,a driver followed her from Jadupurgada and later forcibly dragged her, after finding her alone to the roadside divider.

He made an attempt to rape her,after  disrobing  and forcibly undressing  the victim but the girl managed to rescue herself, after kicking and biting  the accused youth.

Marshaghai police later on October 18,2017 in a joint raid with Kendrapara Special police team and Paradip counterparts  had  arrested the accused  who  was hiding at a truck terminal in Paradip.

The accused was booked  under Section 376 and 511 of IPC   and produced before the SDJM court of Kendrapara.

Sources said convicted youth Kalia was a habitual sexual offender and was also arrested in the past. for allegedly attempting to rape a girl.

He was also involved in killing an old woman.
