COVID 19 outbreak: Jammu and Kashmir administration closes Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra

Srinagar/IBNS: In a bid to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, state government authorities have suspended the Vaishno Devi Yatra, media reports said.

Official Twitter handle of Department of Information and Public Relations, Govt of Jammu & Kashmir tweeted: "#COVID19 #JammuAndKashmir

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra has been closed from today.  Operations of All Inter-State Buses - Incoming and Outgoing from J&K, banned from today."

"Jammu&Kashmir government has banned entry of foreign tourists to the UT as a precautionary measure in view of the coronavirus outbreak around the world. Advisor to the Lt. Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan has issued necessary orders to DCs and Directors of Tourism for necessary action," it said.

The state government made the3 order amid growing Coronavirus cases in the country.

Meanwhile, the Shrine Board has taken several other preventive measures for ensuring the safety of the pilgrims.

These include the curtailing of Atka Aarti slots, closing of Garbhjoon Cave at Adhkuwari, restricting the "yatra" in groups among others.

India has reported 147 cases of Coronavirus in the country so far.
