New Delhi/UNI: A massive fire broke out at a tomato market in Delhi's Azadpur Mandi on Friday, fire service officials said.

According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS), it received a call at around 17:17 hours about a fire incident inside the mandi in Delhi’s northwest district.

A total of 10 fire tenders responded to the call and rushed to the spot to douse the blaze.

The fire was brought under control and a cooling process was underway, a senior official of DFS said.

No casualty or anyone being trapped was reported in the fire incident so far.

“A total of 10 fire tenders were sent to the site considering the congested area. Fire was under control within half an hour and no casualty has been reported so far,” stated Atul Garg, Director, DFS.

Azadpur mandi is one of the largest wholesale vegetable markets in Asia in terms of quantity, and is a major factor in determining the cost of fruit and vegetable products in the majority of Northern India.

Everyday, hundreds of trucks enter and leave the mandi, transporting fresh produce throughout the nation.
