Dr Abdullah Abdullah arrives in India on five-day official visit

New Delhi/UNI: Dr Abdullah Abdullah, Afghanistan’s top peace negotiator and Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), arrived here on Tuesday on a week-long official visit for talks with Indian leaders on various bilateral and regional matters, including the ongoing intra-Afghan peace process.

'Arrived in New Delhi, India to begin my official visit. During my stay, I will meet the leadership of India, & exchange views on Afghan Peace Process, & bilateral relations,’’ Dr Abdullah Abdullah tweeted upon arrival.

This is his first visit to India as HCNR Chairman, representing the Afghan government in talks with the Taliban which began in Doha last month.

Dr Abdullah Abdullah, who will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8 in the morning and later give a speech at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA) the same evening.

On October 9 he will have official-level discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on various bilateral, regional and international issues.

He is also scheduled to meet National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, sources said.

He will leave or Kabul on October 11.

Before leaving for India, he said India is Afghanistan’s strategic partner and has continuously supported the government and the people of Afghanistan.
