EAM S Jaishankar appreciates Sri Lanka for condemning terrorism

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday met a Sri Lankan delegation in New Delhi, when he praised the Island Nation for condemning terrorism and expressing sympathy over the Pahalgam attack.

The Sri Lankan delegation is visiting India as a part of the PRIDE Capacity Building Program.

Jaishankar said he had a 'warm' interaction with the delegation from the neighbouring nation.

"Had a warm interaction with parliamentary colleagues from Sri Lanka visiting India for the PRIDE Capacity Building Program," he wrote on X.

"Appreciate their condemnation of terrorism and expressions of sympathy on the Pahalgam attack," he said.

Jaishankar said: "Discussed our Neighbourhood First policy, underpinned by strong people-to-people ties."

Jaishankar said he reiterated India's commitment to Sri Lanka’s development and progress.

Operation Sindoor was a fierce military operation launched by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 tourists who were enjoying their vacation at Baisaran Valley, which is referred to as India's Switzerland.

The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

After the Pakistan Army again targeted Indian civilians and resorted to cross-border firing, the Indian Armed Forces retaliated, destroying defence systems of the hostile neighbour.

Following the same, India is sending a total of seven all-party delegations to different countries to apprise them of the significance of Operation Sindoor and expose Pakistan's role in harbouring cross-border terrorism.
