ED approaches Apple to access Kejriwal's iPhone in Delhi liquor scam probe

New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate investigators have approached Apple seeking assistance to access Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s iPhone, media reports said.

Kejriwal, who has been in ED custody for over a week, had turned off his iPhone and has not disclosed his password, reported the Indian Express.

While no electronic evidence pertaining to the Chief Minister has been found on his personal computers or desktops, four mobile phones, including his, were seized, according to the report.

Approximately Rs 70,000 was discovered untouched in his residence on the night of his arrest on March 21.

During questioning, the Chief Minister allegedly said that accessing his phone's data and chats could reveal details about AAP's election strategy and pre-poll alliances.

The Enforcement Directorate has formally contacted Apple to gain access to the CM's iPhone but has been informed that a password is necessary for data retrieval, reported the Indian Express.

Kejriwal informed the ED that he has been using this phone for about a year and no longer possesses the device he used during the drafting of the liquor policy in 2020-2021.

Senior officials stated that the CM is being questioned for approximately five hours each day.

The Enforcement Directorate plans to request a four-day extension of the Chief Minister's remand, which will end on April 1; otherwise, they will seek his judicial custody.
