ED Probe
ED raids IPAC office, Pratik Jain’s home in coal scam probe; Mamata Banerjee rushes in, takes on BJP
Kolkata/IBNS: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted raids at the office of political consultancy firm IPAC and the residence of its head, Pratik Jain, in connection with the coal smuggling case, media reports said.
ED officials carried out searches at IPAC’s office located in Salt Lake Sector V and at Jain’s residence on Loudon Street in central Kolkata.
IPAC is known to provide political consultancy services to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Within hours of the raids, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rushed to Jain’s Loudon Street residence, where she was seen collecting some files.
Speaking to reporters while leaving the premises, Banerjee launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of misusing central probe agencies to target her party.
Alleging that officials were attempting to seize Trinamool Congress documents, the TMC supremo said, “They were trying to seize my party documents. What will happen if I do the same with the BJP?”
Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Banerjee called him a “nasty and naughty Home Minister”.
She also said that she would visit IPAC’s office in Salt Lake later in the day.
