New Delhi: In two separate incidents in Delhi, an elderly man and four children have drowned in floods caused by relentless rainfall that has brought the city to a halt, media reported.

A 60-year-old man drowned in a submerged underpass in Delhi’s Okhla, which remained underwater for over 24 hours after heavy rains persisted on Saturday, reported India Today.

Two boys drowned near the Siraspur underpass close to the metro, where water levels reached 2.5 to 3 feet.

Police responded to a distress call at around 2:25 pm. With assistance from the fire brigade, the cops conducted a search operation, and eventually recovered the bodies, according to the report.

It appeared that the boys had drowned while bathing. Their bodies have been sent for postmortem.

On Friday, two boys aged 8 and 10 drowned while playing in a rainwater-filled ditch in northeast Delhi, the report said.

The incident occurred in a five-foot-deep ditch near Pusta No. 5 in the New Usmanpur area, which was filled with water due to the rains.

A police team rushed to the scene and rescued the boys, but they were declared ‘brought dead’ by doctors upon arrival at the hospital.
