FBI hunts for Indian-origin suspect Nazeer Hameed, announces $50,000 reward in 8-year-old double murder case
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a reward of up to USD 50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Nazeer Hameed, a 37-year-old Indian-origin man accused of fatally stabbing a coworker and her six-year-old son at a South Jersey apartment complex in 2017.
According to the FBI, Hameed is believed to be currently residing in India. The FBI’s Newark Field Office is assisting the Maple Shade Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey in the ongoing investigation.

Hameed is wanted for his alleged involvement in the killing of Sasikala Narra and her son, Anish Narra, who were found dead inside their apartment in Maple Shade, New Jersey, on the evening of March 23, 2017.
On February 6, 2025, Hameed was formally charged in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Burlington County, with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
A state arrest warrant has been issued, the FBI said.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has written to and spoken with India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, seeking the Government of India’s assistance in Hameed’s extradition. In his letter, Murphy cited the 1997 Extradition Treaty between the United States and India and emphasized continued bilateral cooperation in combating violent crime.
“This heinous crime shocked our state, and for eight years investigators pursued every available lead,” Murphy said. “The Government of New Jersey stands ready to cooperate fully with the Ministry of External Affairs of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs of India, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of State, and the FBI to facilitate the extradition process in accordance with both Indian law and our bilateral treaty.”
