Hathras: Rahul Gandhi slams UP govt over claims of 'no one was raped'

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the fatal gangrape of the 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras which triggered nationwide protests.

"The shameful truth is many Indians don't consider Dalits, Muslims and Tribals to be human. The CM & his police say no one was raped because for them, and many other Indians, she was NO ONE (sic)," Gandhi wrote in a tweet this morning, sharing a news report by BBC News that said the police had been denying the rape charges.

On Sept 14, a 19-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped at a village in Hathras by four men and also brutally beaten by the alleged assailants. She was admitted to a hospital in Aligarh, but when her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Yogi Adityanath government came under scathing attack as the incident came into the surface.

The woman was cremated in the early hours of Sept 29, allegedly without the consent and presence of her family members.

Yogi Adityanath had, on Oct 3, made a recommendation for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into this case.

On Saturday, the Centre issued a notification for the CBI to take over the investigation.

The UP administration had also suspended the Hathras Superintendent of Police, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, and the Police station In-Charge Inspector, over the allegations of mismanagement of the incident.

Last week, Gandhi had visited the victim's family, two days after he was stopped by the UP Police while marching to Hathras.
