Hathras: UP Police file 19 FIRs across state alleging 'deeper conspiracy'

Lucknow/IBNS: Nineteen First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police against unknown persons across the state in connection with the fatal gangrape of the 19-year-old girl in Hathras.

Facing flak over its handling of the case, the police have alleged that there is an attempt to disturb peace in the state.

They have lodged cases of conspiracy and promoting religious hatred in the main FIR in Hathras case

The charges listed in the main FIR include inciting caste divides, religious discrimination, doctoring electronic evidence, a conspiracy against the state and defamation.

"There is a deep conspiracy in Hathras, we will investigate the truth," senior police officer Prashant Kumar told media.

The cases have been filed across the state just a day after UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleged that the Hathras incident was being exploited by those who had a problem with his government's progress.

With politicians from opposition parties visiting the girl's family, the UP police have also filed cases for violation of social distancing and other safety guidelines for Covid-19.

The UP police also filed a case against Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad, who visited the victim's family in Hathras on Sunday.

Azad along with 400 others have been accused of violating a ban on large gatherings in the area.

But no action has been taken against some 500 men who gathered in support of the gangrape accused; some among them openly warn Azad in videos that are viral online.

Amid massive protests across the country, Yogi Adityanath ordered a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe into the Hathras fatal gangrape incident on Saturday.

The Yogi Adityanath government has come under attack after the 19-year old, who belongs to the lowest rung of caste system prevailing in the north Indian state, was allegedly dragged by her dupatta, gangraped by four men, got her spinal cord damaged and her tongue cut.

Two weeks after the incident, which occurred on Sept 14, the girl succumbed to her injuries at a Delhi hospital last Tuesday.

In an even more shocking incident, the dead body of the girl was cremated by police officials in the dead of night denying the family members a look at the victim for the last time in Uttar Pradesh, which is ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Earlier, Adityanath had set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the heinous crime and also ordered a trial against the accused in a fast-track court.
