Hijab controversy in Madhya Pradesh

| @indiablooms | Jun 02, 2023, at 02:22 pm

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed the Collector, Damoh, to conduct an inquiry into female Hindu pupils allegedly being made to wear hijabs at a school; it was officially learnt on Thursday.

Recently, the academic institution in question issued a poster regarding Board of Secondary Education toppers and the pictures of majority community members in headscarves were frowned upon by some social organisations.

Mustaq Mohammad, who runs the Ganga Jamna Higher Secondary School at the centre of the controversy, has rejected the allegation.

“This is a baseless allegation that we forced the Hindu students to wear hijab. They used to wear the scarves themselves and even for the posters, the students provided the pictures. We never forced anyone to wear anything other than school uniform," he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
