Hyderabad: GHMC intensifies relief operations: amid heavy rains

Hyderabad/UNI: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Lokesh Kumar on Sunday said that the GHMC intensified relief operations and took steps to bring back normalcy in inundation areas of the city.

Commissioner GHMC , Zonal Commissioners, Addl. Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners are in the field and monitoring the relief operations and distribution of CM’s Relief kits to the affected people.

Minister for MA&UD K Taraka Ramarao, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar are administering overall operations.

In a statement here, Mr Lokesh Kumar informed that administration is alerting the officials, field staff  and citizens about the situation regularly.

Since there are some more rains to occur in the next couple of days  as per weather report, as  a precautionary measure GHMC evacuating the citizens of low lying areas.

With the heavy lashes on 13th of this month, various localities were inundated and about 35,309 families were affected due to floods. Further as the water likely flooded from the Gurram Cheruvu, 2100 families were evacuated to safer places on 17th evening. 

Total 37,409 families were affected. CM’s Relief ration kits along with 3 blankets total  worth Rs.2800 are being distributed to the affected families.

Till now 20,000 Ration kits and blankets were distributed, remaining kits and blankets will be distributed by 19th. Similarly milk , bread and biscuits are being distributed to the affected families. A total of 90,000 meals during lunch time and 60,000 meals at dinner with packing distributed to the flood affected people freely.       

The engineering wing and DRF teams pump out water from the apartment cellars and inundated colonies.  From DRF side 72 teams 106 water pumps and from Engineering Maintenance side 170 Monsoon teams with 202 water pumps are engaged in dewatering activities. 

In order to contain water borne and vector borne diseases the entomology and DRF teams take up activities  like anti larva, spraying of bleaching powder and Sodium Hypochlorite chemicals in the cellars and inundation areas. With 60 tankers @ 2 vehicles for each circle,  30 from DRF and 30 from fire services are pressed into service for spraying Sodium hypochlorite chemical to contain contact diseases.

Special drive conducted to remove the Debris, C&D Waste and household items accumulated in nalas and on roads due to recent floods and water stagnated on the roads by the Engineering wing and DRF. 

In the interest of the public health, Commissioner GHMC appealed to the citizens  to drink boil water only  so that water borne diseases and infections can be controlled and stay healthy.
