Indian Navy warship arrives in Tanzania, boosts strategic ties

INS Trikand, a frontline guided missile frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Friday as part of its ongoing deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region.

 The visit is aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation and enhancing bilateral ties between India and Tanzania, according to an official statement.

During the port call, the ship’s crew will engage in professional interactions, including joint training exercises with the Tanzania Navy to improve interoperability and deepen maritime collaboration.

A series of social and community outreach activities are also planned, such as friendly sports fixtures and yoga sessions. In addition, a cultural evening will be hosted onboard to promote goodwill and foster people-to-people connections.

The ship is also carrying critical stores from India, which will be handed over during the visit.

Captain Sachin Kulkarni, Commanding Officer of INS Trikand, is scheduled to call on senior dignitaries of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The port call aligns with India’s vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), reinforcing its commitment to regional maritime security and cooperation.
