Indian PM Narendra Modi will address the nation at 5 pm on Sunday, media reports said.

However, there is no official word on the subject of his address in the evening, reported India Today.

Modi will address the nation ahead of the Navaratri celebration when the new GST rate cuts will come into effect.

Prices of several goods are expected to come down after the new rates kick in.

Earlier this month, the GST Council approved a sweeping overhaul of the indirect tax system.

Effective September 22, the Council reduced the four-rate GST structure to two slabs, eliminating the 12% and 28% rates and retaining only the 5% and 18% slabs, a move aimed at easing the burden on the middle class.

Modi is going to address the nation at a time when the relationship between India and the US has reached a low point over the Donald Trump-led administration's decision to impose 50 percent tariffs on India.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump also signed a petition that will impose $100,000 application fee for H-1B visas.

The announcement sparked a strong reaction from the tech world, with a large number of Indian professionals applying for it every year.
