Ranchi/UNI: The counting of votes for the bypolls on two seats of Jharkhand Assembly including Dumka (ST) and Bermo has commenced on Tuesday amid elaborate security arrangements.

The district administrations of Dumka and Bermo have made sufficient preparations for the counting at these two places. A total of 18 rounds of counting would be held in Dumka while in Bermo 17 rounds would be held.

The voting on these two seats was held on November 3. Dumka had witnessed a voter turnout of 65.27 per cent, the average voter turnout in Bermo was 60.20 per cent.

In Dumka, there were 12 candidates in race but it is a direct fight between Basant Soren of the JMM and Dr Lois Marandi of BJP while in Bermo despite having 16 candidates it is Jaimangal Singh of Congress who is battling against Yogeshwar Mahto Batul of BJP.

The bypolls on these two seats was necessitated as Chief Minister Hemant Soren who had won from both Dumka and Barhet seats resigned from Dumka and took oath as the member of the house from Barhet while Beemo fell vacant following the demise of Congress heavy weight leader Rajendra Singh.
