Kolkata/IBNS: Senior CPI-M trade union leader Shyamal Chakraborty, who was battling Covid-19 for the past seven days, died at a private hospital in Kolkata following two massive cardiac arrests at around 1:50 pm on Thursday. He was 78.

Former state president and All-India Vice President of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Shyamal Chakraborty was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata's EM Bypass area on July 30 with several old-age related issues, including kidney problems, pneumonia and ankylosing spondylitis, and he had also tested positive for Covid-19.

The veteral CPI-M leader was shifted on ventilator support on Aug 1 as his health condition deteriorated, and he breathed his last today following two massive cardiac arrests.

Mourning Chakraborty's death, senior CPI-M leaders said that his last rites will be performed following all Covid-19 protocols and norms.
