Maharashtra local body polls: Sena-NCP-Congress alliance wins, BJP emerges as single largest party

Mumbai/IBNS: In the first big local body election in Maharashtra without the Other Backward Class reservation, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), combined of Shiv Sena, Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), emerged as a big gainer.

However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BP) still emerged as the single largest party.

Counting of votes for 106 Nagar Panchayats took place on Wednesday.

Of the 1,649 seats declared by the state election commission, the BJP won 384, the NCP won 344, Congress won 316 and Shiv Sena bagged 284. The Maha Vikas Aghadi together bagged 944 seats.

Of the 97 Nagar Panchayat results that have come in, the NCP won the maximum at 27, followed by the BJP at 22, the Congress at 21 and the Shiv Sena at 17. Local alliances and others won in ten places.

Meanwhile, results of the elections held in six Nagar Panchayats in Nashik district of Maharashtra have been declared. Out of these six, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got 2 seats, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) got 2, Shiv Sena and Maha Vikas Aghadi got 1 each.

In Niphad Nagar Panchayat, BJP has suffered a blow. NCP MLA Dilip Bankar has been pushed and Shiv Sena's saffron has hit Niphad Nagar Panchayat.

The Sena's dominance over Peth Nagar Panchayat has been shaken and the NCP's dominance has been established.

Agriculture Minister Dada Bhuse, BJP's Union Health Minister Dr. Bharti Pawar, NCP MLA Dilip Bankar has suffered a blow in the Nagar Panchayat elections.
