Manipur: 1 killed, many injured in firing; BJP office attacked by large mob

Imphal/UNI: A person succumbed to bullet wounds and many persons including women were injured in firing on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday after a large mob attacked the office of BJP in Manipur's Imphal.

Police said central and state forces restored to heavy firing to control the mob who went berserk.

Firing of tear gas shells to control the mob continued till early on Friday.

On Thursday two persons were killed in firing by armed miscreants between Imphal West and Kangpokpi district.

A body was recovered and another later after prolonged exchange of fire.

The body which was recovered first was brought to the market here and people shouted slogans against the government for the failure to protect civilians.

Massive security arrangements in place in the state and all markets were asked to shut down.

Internet remained suspended since May 3 last and the highway remained blocked at Kangpokpi.
