Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday submitted his resignation to Governor A K Bhalla amid recent violence in the north-eastern state.

CM N Biren had rushed to Delhi on Saturday and came back on Sunday with Sambit Patra. After returning to Imphal he submitted the resignation letter, reported Indian news agency UNI.

In his letter, Singh said it was an 'honour' for him to serve the people of the state.

“I am extremely grateful to the Central government for timely actions, interventions, developmental work and implementation of various projects for safeguarding the interest of every single Manipuri,” Singh's resignation letter read as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur in 2023 which left more than 200 people reportedly dead.

The violence left thousands of people homeless.
