Manipur police arrest an Assam Rifles personnel with contraband drugs

Guwahati/IBNS: Security forces arrested an Assam Rifles personnel with contraband drugs worth several lakh of rupees in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Thursday evening.

The arrested Assam Rifles personnel was identified as 35-year-old Yengkhom Bikram Singh of 6th Assam Rifles (GD number – 5003963) and he was recently shifted to Arunachal Pradesh from Manipur.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input a police team of Thoubal district had conducted search operation at Wangjing Bazar area on the Imphal-Moreh highway at around 8-30 pm.

While conducting random checking of vehicles, the police team detained one Maruti Swift Dzire car bearing registration number MN-01AG-2307.

A top police official said the police personnel found 23 packets containing 2.30 lakh WY tablets from the car.

The contraband drugs were found packed in 23 packets and concealed in one black airbag in the back of the car.

Meanwhile, Thoubal district police have registered a case in connection with it.
