Minor girl raped in state bus in Dehradun; 5 roadways employees arrested

Dehradun: Five employees of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation were arrested after a minor girl travelling from Delhi to Dehradun on a state bus was allegedly gang-raped at the Dehradun ISBT early Tuesday morning, media reports said.

Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh reported that an FIR has been filed against the five suspects—the bus driver and conductor, the driver and cleaner of another bus parked nearby, and a cashier at the ISBT.

All five accused have confessed to the crime, according to police.

After the assault, the teenage girl, from Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh, was found alone at the ISBT by a guard and was subsequently taken in by the state Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

During a counselling session, she disclosed the assault to the CWC, according to reports.

This incident in Dehradun comes against the backdrop of widespread outrage over women's safety following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata on August 9.

Her autopsy confirmed she was raped before being murdered while on duty.

The case has sparked nationwide protests and strikes by doctors demanding justice and a central law to ensure their safety.
