Kolkata/UNI: BJP leader Mukul today  got a breather from a single-judge bench of Calcutta High Court  in a case of cheating and criminal defamation in which he had been named as a co-accused.

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh admitted Roy’s plea for not appearing before the investigating officer of Kalighat police station in the city and directed the police to issue notice seven days before interrogating him in connection with the case.

Complainant Sujit Shyam, a former close aide of Roy, filed a complaint before Kalighat police station alleging that he had received phone calls regarding documents in a CD, which the unknown caller claimed to be damaging  to Trinamool Congress and offered it to him for a sum of Rs 1.5 crore.

Shyam also said that the unknown caller had also told him that Mukul Roy had shown interest  in buying the CD for a higher price, but  backed out later.

In his complaint, Shyam accused Roy of being behind the phone calls.

A case of cheating, criminal intimidation and abetment to crime was filed against Roy on the basis of the complaint lodged in Kalighat station.
