Narendra Modi praises Donald Trump as Hamas agrees to release Israeli hostages

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his peace efforts in Gaza, after Hamas agreed to release all remaining Israeli hostages under a proposed U.S.-brokered plan.

In a post on X, Modi said: “We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace.”

Hamas confirmed it had accepted Trump’s 20-point peace plan, though the group is seeking further negotiations on some provisions.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, called on Israel to “immediately stop” airstrikes on Gaza to allow the safe release of hostages. “Based on Hamas’ statement, I believe they are ready for a lasting peace. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly,” he wrote.

Earlier, Trump issued an ultimatum to Hamas, demanding that the Palestinian group accept the U.S. plan by 6 p.m. Washington time on Sunday or face what he described as “all hell, like no one has ever seen before.”

Hamas said its decision came after what it described as “intense discussions” with mediators and international stakeholders.
