| @indiablooms | Dec 28, 2019, at 06:06 pm

Bhubaneswar/UNI: The new year festive spirit is likely to be dampened as several southern and Western Odisha districts are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall from January 1 next, according to the Centre for Environment and Climate(CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University.

The rains are likely to be triggered by a western disturbance  which is likely to have effect in the western Odisha districts from new year's day.

The  CEC  said western region of the state will be affected by the combination of western disturbance from northwest, warm moisture laden wind from Bay of Bengal carried by southeasterly wind as well as by southwesterly wind from the Arabian sea,.

There was probability of thunderstorm and lightning with hailstorm in the western Odisha districts on January 1 and heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two locations in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurdah, Nayagarh, Rayagada and Kalahandi  districts of south Odisha on January 2.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in rest of the districts between January 1 to 3, the centre said.

There will also be a drop in night temperature by around 3 to 4 degrees C between December 28 to 30 due to strong northwesterly dry cold wind.

Night temperature is likely to rise again gradually from December 31. Further drop in night temperature  might start from January 5, the CEC  said
