Pakistan asks UNSC to summon a session to discuss Kashmir issue

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi wrote a letter to the UNSC president today, asking that the Indian act, which is unconstitutional and against the conventions of the United Nations, should be discussed in a session, reported Geo News.

The foreign minister stated that if India continues the acts of aggression then Pakistan will not stay silent, reported the news channel.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has said that restrictions on the movement of people and communication links in Jammu and Kashmir, the state which witnessed the scrapping of Article 370 recently, were being eased out in a phased manner.

A Union Home Ministry spokesperson tweeted: "The restrictions in #JammuKashmir are being eased out in a phased manner in the Valley and the situation in the Jammu division has been restored after assessment by relevant local authorities."

Kashmir is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day on Thursday.

It celebrated Eid peacefully on this week.

"Full dress rehearsal for the celebrations of #IndependenceDay has been done in every district of #JammuKashmir and necessary arrangements have been put in place for the smooth conduct of the same," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is still sensitive and the Centre must get a reasonable time to ensure normalcy in the valley, media reports said.

The top court said while it was hearing a petition seeking an immediate lifting of lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir which has lost its special status by the Centre's move of scrapping Article 370.

The apex court has also adjourned the case for two weeks.

The BJP government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.

Several Kashmir leaders including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers- Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti- have been kept under detention. Section 144 is still imposed in the state.

Pakistan Army chief reacts:

Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday said the country's government has initiated multiple efforts to redress Kashmir issue. 

Bajwa on Monday visited the Line of Control in Bagh sector and celebrated Eid with the soldiers.

Speaking on the occasion, Army Chief was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations that government has initiated multiple efforts to redress Kashmir crisis.

"Our resolve to solve the Kashmir dispute is as strong as desire for peace," he said.

"India is trying to shift the global attention away from IOJ&K to LOC and Pakistan and for this purpose it can do anything. We must not give them any opportunity to cover up the crimes it is committing in IOJ&K," he said.
