Police arrest two persons with fake currency notes in Assam’s Karimganj

Guwahati/IBNS: Police arrested two persons with fake currency notes worth Rs 2,49,500 in Assam’s Karimganj district on Thursday night.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, the Karimganj district police launched an operation at Charisa area under Karimganj police station and intercepted a Bolero vehicle bearing registration number ML-04B-5065.

During search operation, the police team recovered fake currency notes of Rs 2,49,500 from the vehicle and arrested two persons travelling in the vehicle.

The arrested persons were identified as Selimuddin and Zakir Hussain.

An official of Karimganj district police said Zakir Hussain is the most wanted criminal in Tripura and several cases have been registered against him under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.

“We are also searching him. During searching the vehicle, we have recovered fake currency notes of Rs 2,49,500 from the vehicle. We have arrested the persons and seized the amount and the vehicle,” the police official said.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Karimganj police station.
