S Jaishankar holds talks with visiting South Korean counterpart Park Jin on bilateral ties

New Delhi/IBNS: South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, who arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit Friday held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on taking forward the bilateral special strategic partnership.

The South Korean Foreign Minister, who is on his first official visit to India, also called on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, during which the two sides highlighted the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, being marked this year.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in a tweet, said: “Glad to welcome @FMParkJin of Republic of Korea on his first official visit to India. Our discussions today will take forward our Special Strategic Partnership."

Both sides agreed to cooperate closely on global and multilateral issues.

"Warm and wide-ranging conversation with @FMParkJin of the Republic of Korea. Noted steady progress in our ties. Discussed political contacts, trade & investments, defence, S&T, energy, space, semiconductors, emerging technologies and cultural exchanges," Jaishankar wrote on Twitter.

"Also shared perspectives of our neighbourhoods, our visions and policies in the Indo-Pacific and the Ukraine conflict. Agreed to cooperate closely on global and multilateral issues. Discovered that the language skills of Koreans are as good as their dancing!!" he said.

The South Korean Foreign Minister leaves for Chennai on Saturday morning on a day-long visit.

On Jan 30, Jaishankar held a telephone conversation with Park Jin, during which they discussed bilateral ties and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The South Korean Foreign Minister was also in Delhi in March for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Earlier, the South Korean Foreign Ministry in a statement said that the meeting between the two foreign ministers is the first one between them as they mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year.
