Sonia Gandhi meets party leaders from North East

New Delhi, Sept 13 (UNI) A day after her meeting with party general secretaries, PCC presidents and CLP leaders, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday met party leaders from the North East and discussed a wide range of issues, including the controversial National Registration of Citizens (NRC).

The meeting , held at Ms Gandhi's official residence, 10 Janpath , was attended by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, party treasurer Ahmed Patel and organisation in-charge KC Venugopal.

In a statement, the AICC said,'Sonia Gandhi held a meeting with all the leaders from North Eastern states. It was a long meeting. We discussed all the problems facing the North Eastern states. Leaders have given their inputs and discussed problems. We have decided to strengthen and consolidate the North East Coordination Committee.'

Former Goa Chief Minister and AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa, Luizinho Faleiro along with former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and Tripura PCC president Pradyot Deb Barman attended the meeting.

Talking about the meeting Mr Feleiro said,'we have also decided to open a permanent office for the Committee in Guwahati. We have decided to meet and discuss periodically, so the problems of the North Eastern states, which are growing and mounting, be addressed. We have discussed many issues including the Citizenship (Amendment) bill, which was passed in Lok Sabha. It is there in the BJP manifesto. We will discuss and will come out with a consolidated statement on it."

On Thursday, Ms Gandhi had met with AICC general secretaries, in-charges, PCC presidents, CLP leaders, Chief Ministers of Congress ruled states, except Madhya Pradesh's Kamal Nath, in the wake of coming assembly polls in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi.

She had asked party leaders and workers to reach out to the people and carry out agitations across the country against the policies of Narnedra Modi government, in particularly its 'mishandling' of the Indian economy.
