Dumka (Jharkhand): A Spanish woman was gang-raped in Jharkhand’s Dumka late Friday night while she was travelling with her husband on a motorcycle, media reports said.

The incident occurred in Kurumahat, in the Hansdiha police station area, where seven men allegedly beat the couple, looted their belongings and raped her, media reported.

The woman and her partner, who had reached Dumka from Bangladesh on two motorcycles and was en route to Bihar and then Nepal, were also robbed and beaten up when they were halting for the night at a makeshift tent.

According to an NDTV report, the woman, with bruises all over her face, shared the horror in an Instagram post: "Something has happened to us that we would not wish on anyone. Seven men have raped me.

"They have beaten us and robbed us although not many things because what they wanted was to rape me."

Police have arrested three accused and are actively working to identify and nab the remaining four suspects.

According to Dumka's Superintendent of Police, Pitambar Singh Khairwar, the victim and her husband, who were travelling by motorcycle, had stopped in the region while en route from West Bengal to Nepal via Jharkhand.

Due to the late hour, they decided to rest and set up a temporary shelter in Kunji village, Dumka.

Their next destination was supposed to be Bhagalpur in Bihar before continuing their journey to Nepal.

Khairwar, mentioned that the woman underwent a medical examination, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the incident, with forensic specialists also assisting in the process, India Today reported.

The couple, who were travelling on tourist visas, had embarked on a long tour of Asia, starting from Pakistan, and then visiting Bangladesh before reaching Dumka.

Their intended destination from Jharkhand was Nepal. Currently, the Spanish woman is receiving medical treatment at the Saraiyahat Community Health Centre (CHC).

Khairwar has been at the crime scene since Friday night, overseeing the situation.

An investigation is underway, with the detained accused undergoing interrogation.

Jharkhand BJP president and former chief minister Babulal Marandi demanded stern action against the police. "When such incidents take place with foreigners, who would like to come to Jharkhand? The law and order machinery has collapsed here. Strict action should be taken against the police," he said.

Condemning the incident, state minister Mithilesh Thakur said, "It is unfortunate. Those involved in the crime will not be spared and stringent action will be taken against them."
