New Delhi: In a major relief to social activist Teesta Setalvad, the Supreme Court in its order on Wednesday granted regular bail to her in a case of forging documents and tutoring witnesses in cases relating to post-Godhra riots cases.

The Apex Court said since the chargesheet has been filed against Teesta and her custodial interrogation completed, she should be granted bail.

The Apex Court also made scathing remarks against the Gujarat HC for rejecting her bail plea and said she would be treated as on continuous bail since September 2, 2022, but told her not to influence any witness.

"If she influences, prosecution can move SC directly for cancellation of bail," the SC said.

"No custodial interrogation is needed on this case to present," the Bench said, and granted regular bail to social activist Teesta.

The Supreme Court in its order on Wednesday also quashed the Gujarat High Court's order which rejected her regular bail and asked her to surrender immediately.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice B R Gavai passed the order and directed that she directed to be remain in bail.

The Supreme Court passed the order after Teesta moved the SC, against Gujarat High Court order which rejected her regular bail on July first week and asked her to surrender immediately.
