New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Monday sought the response of the Enforcement Directorate on Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh's bail plea in the Delhi excise policy case.

A bench comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta tagged the matter with Singh's plea challenging his arrest and remand in the case and posted it for March 5.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared for the AAP leader.

Sanjay Singh was arrested on October 4, 2023, by ED for his alleged role in framing a new Excise Policy for Delhi which benefitted certain liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers as well as the leaders of the ruling state government.

Sanjay Singh’s Bail was rejected by the trial court on December 22, and also by the Delhi High Court on February 9.

The AAP leader then moved the Apex Court for granting him bail and also filed a petition challenging his arrest and remand.

The Top Cout has clubbed both the petitions and will now hear it on March 5.

Two other AAP leaders were also arrested for their alleged role in the new Excise Policy Scam. AAP communication in-charge Vijay Nair was arrested in November 2022 while the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia was arrested in February 2023.
