Tamil Nadu: Theatre owners cancel 'The Kerala Story' screening amid protest by Naam Tamilar Katchi party

Chennai: Tamil Nadu theatre owners have suspended the screenings of the film 'The Kerala Story' film from Sunday due to concerns over the law-and-order situation and the movie's lackluster response, media reports said.

The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), a Tamil nationalist party, organised a protest in Chennai against the release of the film.

Led by actor and director Seeman, the Naam Tamilar Party cadres staged demonstrations near the Skywalk Mall in Chennai's Anna Nagar Arch, expressing their opposition to the movie.

"The Kerala Story", which was released on May 5, depicts the alleged radicalisation and conversion of young Hindu and Christian women to Islam in Kerala and their recruitment into the terrorist organisation Islamic State or ISIS.

In response to Seeman's call for protest, members of the Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK) staged a demonstration inside the theatre where 'The Kerala Story' was being screened.

They were subsequently detained by the police. During the protest, NTK cadres carried the party flag and chanted slogans demanding a ban on the movie.

Seeman also appealed to theatre owners to refrain from screening 'The Kerala Story' and urged the public not to watch the film, as reported by ANI.
