Banu Chandra Reddy, a 32-year-old software engineer from Telangana, died by suicide in his apartment earlier this week.
Soon after, his wife Bibi Shaziya Siraj, who worked at IBM, also died by suicide after discovering his body.
Mounting job and money pressures
Investigators say Reddy had been struggling to find stable work for nearly a year after losing his job in the United States.
His layoff is believed to be linked to broader industry shifts, including increasing reliance on AI-driven roles, which left him without a steady income.
The prolonged uncertainty reportedly led to growing financial strain and mental stress.
Personal struggles behind closed doors
According to reports, there was a lack of family support.
Reddy’s interfaith marriage reportedly caused tensions with his family, particularly his father, leading to strained relationships and limited emotional backing.
Living away from family, the couple was dealing with both financial and personal challenges largely on their own.
Note reveals state of mind
Police have recovered a note in which Reddy reportedly took responsibility for his actions and asked that his wife not be blamed.
Shaziya, who had recently returned to Bengaluru, is believed to have taken the step shortly after discovering her husband’s death.
