Mumbai/IBNS: Thousands of farmers from 21 districts of Maharashtra, many of whom reached Nashik yesterday, started moving to the state capital, 180 km away, for a massive rally called by the Maharashtra unit of All India Kisan Sabha, which is leading the farmers agitation in Delhi, said media reports.

The rally is part of the call given by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is leading the protests in Delhi, to intensify the protests against the farm laws from January 23 to January 26.

According to a statement by the Maharashtra unit of the All India Kisan Sabha at least 15,000 farmers across the state will participate in the rally, said an NDTV report.

Visuals from the city border and toll gates showed farmers arriving in cars, jeeps, vans and trucks, flying red flags, the report added.

The farmers will gather in Azad Maidan and start a three day sit-in protest starting January 25. On the same day a massive rally will be taken out to Raj Bhawan and will be submitted to the Governor.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar, who is part of Maharashtra's Vikas Aghadi government, is expected to attend tomorrow's rally.
Congress, which is also part of the government, has already extended its support.
